Committing to martial arts education – Andover, MA

July 20, 2017 by cmaaandover Leave a Comment

It is my great privilege to teach martial arts and it has afforded me many great opportunities in other areas. I never expected to end up in the position of Chief Instructor or to be responsible for the futurers of other students journey into excellence.

Many see it as an ‘activity’ which is one of many that parents sign their kids up for the summer or to build a resume for a good college. It is more than an activity

Your instructors have spent long hours studying and practicing – more than any doctor, lawyer or other ‘professional’ that has gone to college, post-graduate, medical or law school. A black belt is a master of basics – just the beginning to an understanding of ‘the way’. We are not just kicks and punches, but a way of avoiding or de-escalating and coming to understanding and solving problems calmly and with out violent actions or words.

Do not let the martial arts be an ‘activity’ – it enhances all other areas of life. Let it grow into a passion. I did not start out with a great passion. It was to lose weight, be more healthful and do it in a more interesting way than other exercise programs. Many colleges now look for a prospective students passion: a thing that has been a constant in the childs life.

So many life skills are rooted in a martial arts education. Ask me more.

1st Annual Board Breaking for Scholarship Fund in Andover, MA

March 6, 2017 by cmaaandover Leave a Comment

The evening of Friday March 3 was our inaugural board breaking rally to benefit a fund for the purpose of providing scholarship money to students. Several of the Cervizzi’s Martial Arts Academies have different activities which are to benefit our students. Our leadership team was well represented and provided great enthusiasm and support of the evening. I am humbled by the response of the town of Andover, the parents and students. The evening was a great success as we raised money which will help with various needs from test fees to registration of tournament and other related activities which students may be challenged to meet.

All five of the dojos (school, place of learning) mission is to not just teach punching and kicking but to provide an environment to teach the whole individual life skills. These skills help with bullying, stress, anxiety, weight loss, learning to reach goals and achieve excellence!!!

As you see, the kids and the parents love being a part of this empowering experience. The children learn that small skills grow to big skills – even breaking boards is easier if you have learned to punch. Look at the faces of these kids that tore through 2 boxes of boards!

One of the things that I love about being part of Andover is the home town, old-timey feel of the day to day happenings from season to season. I am putting a list the biggest happenings and a couple of my favorite places we appreciate in Andover. Hope you enjoy it!

Clown Town http://www.andona.org/clown-town/ – the third weekend in May every year. It is right around the corner from us on Bartlet and Chestnut. Children from Andover and the surrounding area come to a carnival and fun time where many forms of entertainment happen. This is a great resource for parents looking for what is available in Andover for the summer to get children and family involved in.

Andover Day http://andoverday.com/ – Near the end of the summer season, this day marks the end of summer and the last hurrah. AD is a Old Home Day style event that brings people to town to have a chance to see new things, new organizations and maybe discover something you did not know about Andover.

LaRosa’s – http://www.larosasofandover.com/ – We run theme nights at the dojo which are on Friday nights. It is a great time to unwind after a week and shift into the weekend. Many times the parents drop off the kids and they have an hour or a little more to kill. I have been sending them to LaRosa’s and they always come back happy!!!

Learning Express – https://learningexpress.com/stores/andover – One of the best purchases I have ever made for the dojo was a ‘discovery’ I made at here. They are always helpful and have great ideas. I have found that many of my students and parents also love this store. I just noticed today that their blog has great ideas for entertaining your kids!!!
